These charter amendments move us closer to creating communities where all of us can thrive, regardless of the color of our skin, how much money we make or what neighborhood we call home.

Minneapolis: Vote Yes on Question 3 for Rent Stabilization

Our Union is proud to be part of the Home to Stay MPLS coalition with community, faith, and other labor groups, all fighting to make sure our families have a safe, affordable place to live.

Several decades ago, the legislature (lobbied by landlords) passed a law restricting local democracy by banning cities from passing rent stabilization policies unless they hold a referendum. The super-rich and corporate landlords do not want to give up their power to hike rent as much as they want. In order for Minneapolis to have the authority to pass our own policies on rent, we have to amend the city charter.

The most effective intervention to keep people in their homes and support working families in Minneapolis is to pass a rent stabilization policy, and voting YES on Question 3 would allow the city to create a policy with public input that helps renters keep Minneapolis home to stay!

St. Paul Voters: Vote YES on Question 1 for Rent Stabilization

From the West Side to the North End, from Frogtown to the East Side, everyone in St. Paul should have a safe, stable place to call home. We know our community is stronger and more prosperous when families, children, and workers can put down roots and invest their energy and love in their neighborhoods.

But, a growing number of corporate and predatory landlords have chosen profit over people, spiking rents to make more money and forcing too many of us out of our homes.

We have the power to stop that.

Voting “YES” on Question 1 and enacting a rent stabilization policy will help us begin to address the affordable housing crisis. Rent stabilization is a proven policy that protects tenants from unreasonable rent spikes and is cost-effective for our city and taxpayers.

Our union, along with our partners in HENS, are ready to do the work between now and election day to build a city where everyone has a safe, affordable place to call home.
